This post kicks off a running theme I plan to visit when it's relevant. I call this ongoing segment "Soundbites: For When You Bite Off More Than You Can Chew." Soundbites are to comment on those wonderful, herd-shared posts on social media by OFWAAR that are worthy thoughts if the concepts involved were as simple as the statements the posts make, but won't stand up as quite so simple and true when actual complexities that crop up in the real world are introduced.
One such post as seen on the social media of one of OFWAAR:
Hm. Sounds fairly logical. But...
What happens to the children of the person receiving the welfare check if the person tests positive for drugs? Do we remove those children from their homes and into foster care? Into tons of space for orphans that doesn't even exist to house our current homeless and foster children, never mind a sudden, massive influx of children who are cared for by a parent who might occasionally smoke weed but otherwise sends up no red flags for irresponsible parenting? Do we send those kids into a system that can't handle them and away from parents who feed, clothe, and love them, but weren't allowed to continue to do so because they smoked a joint the Saturday before their drug test with a friend while their kids were at a friend's house?
Looks like that common sense might actually be biting off more than you can chew.
